h3>La Union Holiday, Property and Tourist Information
La Union is a small town located to the east of Cartagena. It is named La Union after an amalgamation of 4 smaller villages in 1850. The town history is rooted in mining, and indeed it is still relatively reliant on this industry. A museum of mining is present here, and once a year (in August) mining choirs from all over Spain gather here to take part in a traditional fiesta.
Today the town has a lot going for it. Though there is increased interest in the town it still remains relatively untouched by tourism. Being an established community means a good selection of shops, restaurants and other facilities are in place; as are government installations such as a train station and doctors surgery. La Union is conveniently located for beach lovers, at just a short drive. Slightly farther afield lay Cartagena and the La Manga strip with all they have to offer. La Manga Club is the nearest golf club with three 18 hole championship courses and an 18 hole pitch and putt.
The nearest airport to La Union is located at San Javier (MJV); on the other side of the Mar Menor. Travel time should take no longer than 20 minutes. Alicante International airport (ALC) is also an option, though farther afield.
There are many fiestas (festivals) throughout La Union’s calendar, some of which are a real spectacle and well worth a look. The cuisine is another major bonus, with (affordable) good food available in the town restaurants and tapas bars.
La Union is also well known for its mild climate and enjoys sunshine for in excess of 320 days per year. The sun is at its hottest during the summer months, with temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F). Winters are typically very mild with averages hovering around 18°C (64°F).
